Discovering New Species finalist in Premios Verdes 2022

Peru is present among the 500 best social and environmental initiatives with 19 proposals, of which 5 are finalist in Premios Verdes including Discovering New Species.

Among 2522 environmental projects from America, Europe and Africa that were registered in the 9th Edition of Premios Verdes, the Wired Amazon program developed by Rainforest Expeditions with the Discovering New Species project stood out in the Biodiversity category in flora and fauna.

Discovering New Species in alliance with Sernanp, the Natural History Museum of the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, have discovered more than 20 new species for science with active participation in the field and virtually during COVID, of travelers from all over the world, making them allies for the conservation of the Peruvian Amazon forests, an effort that today stands out as a finalist in Premios Verdes.

PREMIOS VERDES, is one of the most relevant distinctions in the world. It has managed to promote the development of more than 17,700 projects where 7 out of 10 have managed to have access to a source of financing. The foundation has delivered more than 20,688 hours of training by experts from around the world over eight consecutive editions. Entrepreneurship, social movements, public policies, and even communication campaigns are part of the projects supported by the organization.

The finalist projects correspond to 12 countries, including: Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guatemala, Bolivia, Brazil, Spain and Costa Rica. The categories to be awarded in this ninth edition are: Biodiversity - Cities -Communication - Human Development - Economy - Energy - Public Policy and Waste.

Peru is one of the countries present in this powerful ranking, with 19 socio-environmental initiatives from the public and private sectors. Pleasantly, 5 are the Peruvian projects within the group of finalists: Wired Amazon, Qaira, Medidor Ambiental KON, Corazones Solidarios and Arena Verde; that will continue in the search for the award in each of its categories in Premios Verdes.
